For those of us who have a little time on our hands it’s obvious that we are going to make the most of it. I was wondering the other day, when I noticed that my deodorants actually don’t work as well as I would like them to, what to do to make them better. So I figured that since there is a DIY tutorial for anything, there must be also one for personal care products, namely deodorant. And this addresses anyone of you who is into bio products, like myself.

Out of the vastness of the internet, I found it! A simple yet interesting recipe for homemade deodorant, I have tried it and I can say that it actually works, throughout the day. I thought about the health benefits alone would make me happier. Since I kept reading of how the aluminum in sprays are partly responsible for breast cancer because they block our glands and those heavy particles enter our skin and go on a rampage, I wanted a safe and ecological alternative.

Leaving this a bit disturbing news aside, I have found what I consider to be the perfect recipe (wellnessmama.com), I also read comments and reviews and everybody seems happy making this change.

6 T coconut oil

1/4 cup (4 T) baking soda

1/4 cup (4 T) arrowroot or cornstarch

essential oils (optional) I used lavender oil and it smells delicious

Mix all of the ingredients together and then store in a container, preferably a sterilized glass jar; this can be kept for about three months. Another thing you should keep in mind is that during summer, in warmer climates, that paste tends to turn to liquid, but this should not be of any concern, you just apply a small spot and rub it in.
